The consent process

Before you can obtain a resource consent you need to go through an application process, just the same as with any other license or permit. Talk to us first before you make your application to avoid unnecessary delays and extra costs. We strongly recommend you do this if you application is any more than very  minor.

All regional and district councils must follow the same statutory process when considering and processing resource consent applications. This process requires you to provide specific information with your application before Waikato Regional Council can start work on it. Talk to us first to avoid unnecessary delays and extra costs caused by common problems often found in consent applications such as:

  • a lack of required information
  • inadequate consultation
  • not applying for all the required consents
