This application was notified to 57 affected parties.  Submissions closed 23 August 2023. A hearing has been scheduled for the application.

The hearing will be held at Te Awamutu Rugby Sports and Recreation Club, 420 Albert Park Drive, Te Awamutu and at Āruka Marae, Āruka Marae Road, Taharoa in August 2024.

About the proposal

Taharoa Ironsands Limited has lodged an application with Waikato Regional Council to renew resource consents associated with mining operations.

Resource consent application

Consent application APP142035 was lodged with Waikato Regional Council on 13 July 2020.

This application is for replacement consents associated with the existing Taharoa Ironsand operations located at Taharoa on the West Coast of the North Island. The application relates to the Central and Southern blocks only and consists of a suite of consents associated with the taking of ironsand and associated land disturbance, water take, discharges, ship loading activities and use of existing infrastructure within the Taharoa Ironsand mine site and the adjacent Coastal Marine Area. The suite of activities sought are:

AUTH142035.05.01 Take and use up to 75,000m3 of water per day from a water supply reservoir created by the damming of the Wainui Stream, for the purpose of loading iron sand onto ships
AUTH142035.06.01 Discharge up to 2,100m3 of settled stormwater & washdown water per day into the Wainui Stream from the area containing the administration building, stores compound and workshops
