About this report

The objective of this report is to provide an updated regional-scale inventory of peat thickness across the major peat bogs of the Waikato region. It combines new 2023 field measurements, taken at around 800 sites, with the historic 1978 Davoren regional peat survey, historical well records, and targeted site investigations. Peat thickness was spatially modelled using regression kriging to produce peatland-scale contour maps and volume estimates, providing an updated baseline for future monitoring of peat thickness and surface elevation change across the region.
