My principal place of residence is in the Taupo-Rotorua General Constituency area.

My name is Mike Downard and I am seeking the opportunity to represent you and the Taupō community. I have proudly lived in Taupō for over 35 years with my wife, Tania, where we’ve raised our five children. I am deeply committed to serving our community and bring extensive leadership experience across a range of local organisations.

My service includes roles such as Taupō District Councilor (6 years), Deputy Mayor (3 years), Waikato Regional Councilor (3 years), and board chair positions, both primary chair (15 years) and secondary chair (6 years). I’ve also contributed to groups including St John, Search and Rescue, Blue Light NZ, Waiora Trust, and the Sports Advisory Council.

As a business owner for 30 years, employing up to 30 staff, I understand the importance of sound decision-making, accountability, and fairness. I am ready to lead with integrity and dedication, and I will not let you down.
