Restoration is the process of assisting the recovery of ecosystems that have been degraded or damaged to a healthy, functioning state.

Restoration activities can include, planting native plants, controlling weeds and managing pest animals, etc. These can be small projects that help reconnect fragmented habitats right up to large landscape scale projects. Every little bit helps – you can help by participating in local restoration projects, joining a community group, trapping in your backyard or farm, planting plants in your garden attract native birds and/or adopting land use practices that promote ecological resilience and biodiversity.

Waikato Regional Council can help with your restoration project by providing advice and/or funding whether you are an individual, landowner, iwi or community group. For more information, visit our Advice and funding page.
