Waikato Region Comprehensive Greenhouse Gas Inventory - July 2015 to June 2016

Report: TR 2017/31

Author: Cerasela Stancu (Envirostrat) and Maurice Marquart (AECOM)

About this report

The first baseline report of Waikato region’s GHG emissions using the standard Global Protocol for Community-Scale Greenhouse Gas Emissions Inventories, which is considered best practice for community based inventories.

Activities within Waikato Region’s boundaries generated 13,797,097 metric tonnes of carbon dioxide equivalent (t CO2e) between July 2015 and June 2016. When forestry is included, the total net emissions are 8,201,706 t CO2e. This represents about 14.5% of New Zealand’s total net emissions.

The report will inform the development of the Waikato region’s climate change response roadmap and should be repeated at regular intervals (3 yearly) to identify changes and to track changes in emissions generation/removal.
