Remove a current non-compliant wood burner and install a clean heat option. The full cost of this work is met by the property owner and can be paid off through the rating system over a nine year period.

Available to those who:

  • own their own home or rent (if you rent SWDC can broker a discussion with your landlord)​​​
  • live anywhere in the South Waikato District - but outside the Tokoroa airshed​ (urban).

Split the bill

South Waikato District Council will pay up to a $2,000 (or 50 per cent of the total heating cost, whichever is the lowest) subsidy to remove a current non-compliant wood burner and then install a clean heat option. The remaining balance can be paid off immediately or through the rating system to be repaid over a nine year period.

Available to those who:

  • own their own home or rent (if you rent SWDC can broker a discussion with your landlord).
  • earn a medium to high income
  • live in the Tokoroa airshed (urban).

On the house

Waikato Regional Council will fully fund one clean heat upgrade.

Available to those who:

  • have an open fire and or wood burner that is 10 years or older in the home that can be removed​ (whether it is working or not)
  • own and live in their own home
  • hold a Community Services Card, a Gold Card with a Community Services Card endorsement, or have had a rates rebate in the last two years
  • have insulation in the ceiling and underfloor that meets the current New Zealand standards.
  • live in the Tokoroa airshed (urban).​
