Zone catchment committees

To help us manage our integrated catchment management work, we’ve divided the region into eight zones.

Each zone has its own catchment committee, which comprise Waikato regional councillors, key agency and community representatives, as well as property owners. These members help to ensure money is spent well and in the areas most needed in their zone.

The zone catchment committees meet three to four times in a year. At the meetings members consider issues related to flood protection and catchment works, biosecurity and biodiversity strategies and programmes in the zone, and in some cases make recommendations to council.

Recommendations from the catchment committees are reported back through the council’s Integrated Catchment Management Committee.

Community appointees

Community appointees serve in an advisory capacity on the zone catchment committees. Appointments are usually made every three years to coincide with the council triennial elections. However due to a committee effectiveness review, the current term of appointees is two-year period with current appointments due to expire 30 June 2020.
