A third-year University of Waikato Bachelor of Environmental Planning student is getting a helping hand with her course fees, thanks to a Waikato Regional Council scholarship.
Shonelle Eccles was presented with the Roger Harris (Waihou Valley Scheme) Scholarship for 2019 at the Waihou Piako Catchment Committee meeting in Te Aroha today.
The scholarship is dedicated to financially helping out civil engineering or resource management students whose families live in the Waihou Piako area.
Shonelle told the committee she was interested in current discussions on three waters (drinking water, wastewater and storm water), generated by the Government’s review, and how they impacted on rivers.
She said this was an area she would be interested in working in after her studies.
The Roger Harris Scholarship was established in 1995 to mark the substantial completion of the Waihou Valley Scheme and, in particular, to acknowledge the contribution of the late Roger Harris to the successful implementation of that major project.
This year’s application round attracted five applicants.
