The Waikato’s big environmental and infrastructure issues take centre stage in the regional council’s Draft 2009-19 Long Term Council Community Plan (LTCCP) released today.

And Environment Waikato is encouraging the public to look out for a special LTCCP issue of the council’s Envirocare magazine entitled Your Waikato. The publication is being delivered to all households in the region over the next week.

The document can also be viewed online at www.ew.govt.nz/ltccp or people can request a copy by phoning 0800 800 401.

Environment Waikato chairman Peter Buckley said the council was hoping for a flood of submissions on the proposed activities and budgets outlined in the latest plan.

“We want to hear from the community whether they think we’ve got our planning right,” Cr Buckley said.

“It’s your Waikato and your rates bill, so please read the LTCCP proposals and have your say on the shape of the Waikato’s future.”

A draft LTCCP is a produced every three years to inform Waikato residents about the activities EW intends to fund and provide over the next 10 years.

The consultation period runs from 20 March to 20 April 2009.  The council will consider public submissions during May, and confirm a final plan before 1 July.
