Thames dairy farmers face prosecution

Environment Waikato will prosecute the owners of a dairy farm near Thames after dairy shed effluent was allegedly discharged into a drain.

The farm at Kopuarahi was inspected by a Waikato Regional Council resource officer after a complaint was received in September.

The officer allegedly found partially treated dairy effluent discharging into a drain which is a tributary of the Piako River.

The farm owners will be prosecuted for breach of their resource consent under the Resource Management Act 1991.
