How to manage stock in winter for greater economic and environmental gain is the focus of a field day coming up at Piopio on Thursday 28 April.

“This field day will discuss the impacts of various stock wintering practices on soil health and water quality, and what farmers can do to protect both for economic and environmental benefit,” said Waikato Regional Council sustainable agriculture advisor Bala Tikkisetty.

The field day will be at the property of Kate and Shaun Carter, 418 Mangaotaki Rd, RD1, Piopio from 10am to 1pm. Lunch will be provided.

The topics to be covered include nutrients, sedimentation of waterways, stock standing-off facilities and land management, as well as compliance with regional council regulations.
