Environment Waikato has granted $3000 towards Forest Lake School’s boardwalk through the school’s bush.

The school had applied for $5000 to construct a boardwalk through a patch of native trees which it uses for outdoor lessons. The site is fenced but doesn’t have any amenities, and the school plans to build a boardwalk with information displays about the trees and plants, seating areas and a small observation area.

The site would be used by the Early Childhood Centre and local residents for recreational walks. Work has already been done on the foundation and deck but more funds for the $22,000 project are needed. The PTA has donated $4000 and Hamilton City Council $1000, with a gala planned for November to raise more funds.

The boardwalk will be constructed by volunteer parents.
