Reward for 25 years in local government

Veteran councillor May Woodcock’s quarter century in local government was acknowledged by Environment Waikato this week.

Cr Woodcock was elected to Hamilton City Council in April 1976, and has since had 25 years of continuous service on the city council, electricity authorities and Environment Waikato. Councillors presented her with a certificate in honour of her anniversary.

Chairman Neil Clarke said Cr Woodcock reminded him of the Queen Mother, as a gracious and charming person who was very caring and often reminded him of other councillor’s birthdays or special events. She was also a stickler for detail.

Three other councillors had also exceeded 25 years service, meaning there was over 100 years of experience around the Council table, he said.
