Environment Waikato is looking for people interested in pest management to serve on the Region’s two biosecurity advisory subcommittees.

The committees look after the northern (Franklin, Waikato, Thames Coromandel, Hauraki and Matamata Piako) and southern (Hamilton, Waipa, South Waikato, Taupo, Waitomo and Otorohanga) parts of the Waikato Region. They meet four times a year and provide regular contact between the Council and communities affected by pest management programmes.

Biosecurity Group Manager John Simmons says the Council is looking for people representing a wide range of interests, from outdoor recreation to commercial forestry, with an interest and understanding of pest issues.

The subcommittees will involve advocating for community pest management tasks, providing feedback on biosecurity policy development and representing Environment Waikato’s policies in their communities.

Anyone interested should contact the Biosecurity Group on Environment Waikato's Freephone 0800 800 401 by early July when nominations close. Appointments will be made at the end of July.
