Passengers have taken to new bus services offered in Hamilton City since March.

Environment Waikato began several new trial services using Kick Start Funding from Transfund, including late night services and Saturday buses.

Saturday services have proved the most popular, with patronage soaring from 850 to 2100. A free bus day on March 9 added to these numbers, and the Saturday average had settled at around 1400 in past weeks. No definite pattern had emerged from the introduction of late night services on Thursdays and Fridays, however numbers for March are 12 percent over April. School children were the main users of the new Northerner service, with passenger numbers up almost five percent in April.

The high frequency Frankton service increased from 1.5 percent the first month to 18 percent in April, indicating that more people used the service as they became aware of it.
