Environment Waikato’s Policy Group Manager Jeanette Black has been appointed Chief Executive of South Waikato District Council.

Ms Black has been with Environment Waikato for three years after previously working for the New Zealand Blood Service.

During her time with the Regional Council she oversaw State Highway 1’s Expressway development and new policies on geothermal resources and coastal planning as well as progressing the more detailed level of sub Regional issues in the Waikato Regional Plan.

She has also been involved in policies to protect Lake Taupo’s water quality and improve the management of rivers and streams in the Coromandel catchment.

Ms Black said Environment Waikato was an invigorating and inspiring organisation to work for, dealing with a complexity of issues that could not be addressed in isolation.

“I’m looking forward to working with the South Waikato District Council which is a good organisation and we’ll continue to build on that.”
