Environment Waikato has appointed a new harbourmaster for the Coromandel.

Richard Williams will replace Neil Macdonald who is retiring after about 14 years in the role at Coromandel. Mr Williams started his employment with the Marine Department in 1960 in the Coromandel as a Fisheries Officer.

He then worked in Auckland, Masterton and Napier. He lives in the Coromandel and is familiar with the harbour and township, and has a New Zealand Coastal Masters qualification. His role is based at Coromandel township.

Environment Waikato took over navigation safety work throughout the Region last year and now employs the harbourmasters throughout the Region. The five harbourmasters are based in Coromandel, Whitianga, Tairua, Whangamata and Thames.
