Maori scholars receive Council awards

Environment Waikato has presented two $2000 scholarships to Waikato Maori students to assist with their university studies.

The scholarships were presented to Stacey Kanui and Lisa Kanawa. They were established in 1991 to commemorate the 25th anniversary of the Maori Queen, Dame Te Ata Irangikaahu.

Stacey Konui is a second year Bachelor of Social Science student majoring in resource management and environmental planning, and geography. She is interested in hands-on work in the environment and hopes to share her experience with her community.

Lisa Kanawa is a second year Bachelor of Science student who hopes to have a career in environmental science specialising in coastal ecology.
