Kayakers learn about river environment

Almost 60 kayakers of all ages spent the weekend on the Waikato River learning more about the river’s environment.

The kayak trips were organised by Environment Waikato as part of the nine day Festival of the Environment to get people onto the river and learn more about the river’s water quality, animal and plant life.

The two trips, on Saturday afternoon and Sunday morning, were accompanied by kayaking experts from kayaking company Camp ‘N’ Kayak. The travellers – who ranged from children to “older” adventurers – spent about two and a half hours enjoying the scenery as well as picking up environmental and kayaking tips as they sailed from Malcolm St to the Pukete Boat Ramp.
