The project to remediate Waikato Regional Council’s leaky building in Hamilton East is set to get underway in April next year.
The council today signed off on the recommended roof design and wall cladding for the council’s Grey St headquarters after hearing from consultants CoveKinloch.
The consultants have been engaged for design and project management services. They will now start the detailed design work required for the tender documents and building consent process.
It is likely the work will be put out to tender in February with construction due to start two months later.
The work is to remediate cladding after dampness was discovered behind it two years ago.
As previously reported, the remediation costs are estimated at around $2 million.
The block being remediated houses the council chambers, the executive floor, front reception, a civil defence room and finance staff.
The work means council meetings will be held off-site, while staff will be temporarily housed at three sites – two in Grey St and one near the council’s existing leased premises in the city.
