Environment Waikato has granted $21,000 from its Environmental Initiatives Fund to develop a network of educational relationships among schools in the Enviroschools programme and businesses and other organisations.

The Enviroschools Foundation plans to develop a web-based information bank for teachers of experts who can support their educational projects. The Foundation supports the creation of sustainable schools where the grounds, operation, management and curriculum are all part of the sustainability process.

They aim to provide students with learning opportunities through strong connections with their land and the full diversity of their communities. The Envirolink project covers all community organisations, and focuses on business and not-for-profit organisations such as research institutions.

Strategic Development Manager Kevin Collins said the Enviroschools programme had been successful, with 31 Waikato schools involved. The Envirolink concept could help students become engaged in protecting many elements of our environment.
