Environment Waikato has granted $1500 to Morrinsville’s Kaihere School to develop a walkway and promote environmental awareness about native bush.

Kaihere School has 83 students, most of whom live on dairy farms. The school grounds include a stand of mature kanuka trees and other native plants which is currently “out of bounds” to students for safety reasons.

The Council heard that developing a walkway through the bush would allow it to be used for environmental education.

Once the walkway is available, the school would develop a two-week learning block based on the bush and its environmental importance.
