Environment Waikato has pledged $10,000 to support the Eastern Bay of Plenty Mayoral Relief Fund to help with flood recovery work.

Chairman Neil Clarke said the Council had a real understanding of the situation faced by the councils in the area, having experienced similar, if not so severe challenges in the past.

The Council has also offered expertise to Whakatane and Opotiki District Councils to help in the recovery process. Environment Waikato provided engineering support and equipment during the flood as well as Communications expertise to set up the Disaster Recovery Office co-ordinating agencies involved in flood repairs.

Mr Clarke said the Council had extended its best wishes to the Mayors in the area for a speedy recovery as they worked together to rebuild their local economy and its vibrant community.
