Environment Waikato responds to tanker spill

Environment Waikato has responded to a call from the New Zealand Fire Service in relation to a fuel tanker accident on SH3.

The call was received at 7.52am today.

“The information we were given was that a fuel tanker carrying petrol and diesel had rolled on SH3 between Mahoenui and Awakino and was leaking slowly,” said emergency response manager Rob Dragten.

“We have dispatched two staff members to the site and they are expected to arrive at about 10am. Reports from emergency services at the scene indicate the spilled fuel has been contained at the site and there is unlikely to be any serious environmental damage.

“We will assist the Fire Service with the clean up in order to minimise any risk to the environment.”
