Environment Waikato is boosting bus services to Ngaruawahia over the next three days as tens of thousands pour into the town to mourn the death of Te Arikinui Dame Te Atairangikaahu.

Special bus services will run on Sunday between Hamilton, Ngaruawahia and Huntly, following the normal Saturday timetable. Saturday services will run as normal.

On Monday, 21 August, a special shuttle service will carry passengers from Turangawaewae Marae at Ngaruawahia to Taupiri Mountain, the Maori Queen’s final resting place.

This free shuttle will operate continuously between 8.30am and 5pm running between the marae and Taupiri Mountain. Environment Waikato, on behalf of Turangawaewae Marae, is bringing in 60 buses for this service.

Delays are expected on Environment Waikato’s normal scheduled bus services between Hamilton, Ngaruawahia and Huntly.

While Monday’s special shuttle between the marae and Taupiri Mountain will be free, the normal one way fares continue to apply on scheduled services between Hamilton and Ngaruawahia.
