Environment Waikato is urging candidates who wish to stand for this year’s triennial elections not to leave it until the last minute to get their nominations in.

With only a week until nominations close at noon on Friday, August 24, the council only has 11 registered candidates for its 12 seats.

Environment Waikato’s electoral officer Warren Stevens said it was disappointing there were still constituencies with no nominations at all.

“There are currently no registered candidates for the North Waikato-Hauraki, Taupo and Matamata-Piako areas,” he said.

Mr Stevens said no late nominations would be accepted.

“We advise intending candidates to submit their nominations in plenty of time, so if more information is needed, there is time to provide it,” he said.

“Incomplete nominations are invalid, so please get them in as soon as possible so you don’t miss out.”

Elections are required for the following constituencies:

  • Hamilton – 4
  • North Waikato-Hauraki – 1
  • Central Waikato – 1
  • South Waikato-Rotorua – 1
  • Taupo – 1
  • Thames-Coromandel – 1
  • Matamata-Piako – 1
  • Waipa-King Country – 2.
