Environment Waikato has set a rate for Project Watershed, its river management, soil conservation and flood protection policy for the Waikato and Waipa river catchments.

The Council received 13 written representations to the Special Order process, which sets the rate to be paid for Project Watershed for the coming year.

As a result of representations, some minor adjustments to classification proportions were made in the Aka Aka and Mangawara areas.

The Council has also decided to delay implementation of the direct benefit component of the rate in the Tongariro and Tauranga-Taupo areas of the Lake Taupo management zone. The classification of benefits for both areas has been reviewed. The communities involved will be given more time to assess the effects of any changes made and make representations to the Council.

The implementation of rating on hydro companies has also been delayed until a review of the differential basis has been conducted.
