Award for environmental engineering student

Environment Waikato has awarded the $4000 Roger Harris scholarship to former Putaruru High School student Joanne Steeghs for her university studies in environmental engineering.

The Harris Scholarship marks the contribution of Hauraki Catchment Board chief engineer Roger Harris to the development of the Waihou Valley Scheme. It is open to students whose families live in the Waihou Valley area.

Joanne Steeghs begins her programme at Massey University this year in environmental engineering and intends to pursue a career that enables her to be a part of future technology while caring for the environment.

Joanne was presented with a cheque for her university fees at this week’s Operations Committee meeting.
