3.6 Damming and Diverting

In addition to the issues identified in Chapters 3.1 and 4.2, damming and/or diversion of water can have the following adverse effects:

Increased risk of flooding on neighbouring properties.
Increased risk of erosion of the bed and banks of lakes, rivers and streams.
Obstruction of fish passage to the extent that indigenous fish or trout cannot complete their lifecycles.
Increased channelisation of river systems leading to aquatic habitat loss.
